By August 26, 2014, close to 27,000 students will be enrolled in New Hanover County Schools (NHCS). That number is expected to grow significantly in coming years. To continue to be a district of excellence and provide all students a high quality education, measures must be taken to maintain our facilities and keep safety a top priority. With the $160 million education bond referendum on the November 4th ballot, NHCS has launched a comprehensive new website that contains all the facts and information needed to become fully informed about the bond. Go to www.nhcs.net and click on the bright red apple with the tagline, "Our Schools, Our Community, Our Future."
The education bond website offers detailed descriptions of the 14 prioritized projects and explains how every school in the district will benefit through added safety features and improved technology. Impact on local taxes is explained accurately and in easy to understand terms. Excellent schools benefit the entire community through the attraction of more businesses which strengthens our local economy, according to the Wilmington Chamber of Commerce.
Another important element included on the new website is how past bond funds have been successfully utilized. This section gives details on the new schools that have been built, outdated structures replaced and much needed upgrades that have been made throughout the system. There is also an important link for Frequently Asked Questions.
