Nathan Malaya and Lydia using iPad in ArtFriends School of Wilmington is launching a pilot program using digital technology tools that will enrich their inquiry-based educational program.
Teacher Amy Hall will pilot Mac equipment in art classes at Friends in grades 3-8. New equipment will include an iMac and iPads for student use, one MacBook Pro for teacher use, publishing software, and equipment that allows for digital projection and printing. Integrating these technology tools will allow students to utilize iPad sketchbook apps for digital design, take virtual tours of art collections around the world, participate in a digital photography unit, and use iPads for electronic reflections and critiques. Student engagement and learning will be assessed at the end of the year to determine further technology integration strategies.
Macs are the standard for Art and Design in the education world today. A multitude of free and inexpensive apps are available for download that center on teaching art-making skills. Macs are also consistently reliable and have a much longer lifetime than PCs. The power of a Mac allows students to connect with other students from different cultures around the world to find commonalities and collaborate on artwork.
Friends School thanks donors who contributed funds to make this technology pilot program possible and is currently planning additional integrated technology pilot programs in the future.
