Cape Fear Academy
Students beginning sixth grade at Cape Fear Academy are being offered a unique elective for the 2013-2014 school year. Unlike any other students in the area, these students may choose to take Mandarin Chinese as their foreign language choice. The course will be taught by Ms. Lu Xue, a graduate of Anhui University, Hefei, China, and Vanderbilt University (M.Ed.), Nashville, TN.
Middle School Director, Mr. Peter Hourigan, supports this curricular offering: “On a faculty exchange to China in 2007, I saw firsthand the amazing education presented in a premier Shanghai High School. It would be irresponsible for us to ignore China's rising influence on the world. I am more than excited that Cape Fear Academy is beginning a Mandarin program to ensure our future leaders have a place at the world table.”
