Kelly Kit
There are many children's art subscription boxes available today. Kelly Kits is one of those that offers something beyond the materials needed for an art project. Kelly Kits are a monthly art curriculum that explore a variety of art mediums and tools.Kits are design to be used with parents to engage children in learning activities. The kits come complete with a monthly lesson plan that will teach your child about art and other educational disciplines such as social studies, science, math and language arts.
The Kelly Kit that I reviewed included the powder and instructions needed to make Kelly Klay, a material to be used for sculpting. The Klay was easy to make and my daughter loved to help gather, measure and mix the ingredients.
Once the Klay had cooled, we logged into the Kelly Kits website and used our membership code to access a video of an explanation of the kit along with some footage of children using the Klay to create their own works of art.
After looking at the video, my daughter was ready to have some fun with the Kelly Klay. I allowed her some time to play with the Klay on her own before exploring the curriculum idea that was included in the kit. For preschoolers, the recommendation was to create letters and numbers with the clay encouraging your child to say the names of each and try to make some of their own. We also participated in some phonics activities by sounding out the letters that we made. My daughter really enjoyed the Klay and we have stored it for future use.
Kelly Kits are suitable for children 2 and older and include curriculum ideas for preschool and elementary aged children. The subscription brings the following art disciplines to your door throughout the year: painting, drawing, sculpting, printmaking, & collage. The cost of the subscription is $9.99 a month and are even less if you choose to purchase a 6 month or annual subscription.
