Phillips Sonicare
Good oral health is important for overall health. Therefore it is important to develop effective teeth cleaning habits when children are young. If children are excited about brushing their teeth they are more likely to want to participate in this task at least twice a day.
The Phillips Sonicare electric toothbrush for kids offers a unique alternative to a manual toothbrush. My daughter was very excited to test out this toothbrush. Upon opening the package, we noticed that it comes with 3 different interchangeable face plates so that you can personalize the toothbrush. My daughter chose the yellow one with fun dots.
After the toothbrush had charged and I had read the directions, it was time to test it out. We applied a small amount of toothpaste on the child-sized toothbrush head and turned the toothbrush on. My 4 year old daughter giggled a little as I brushed her teeth because "it tickled". Throughout the brushing process, there were 3 chimes to alert the user that it was time to switch to a different brushing zone. When the final zone had been brushed the toothbrush played a celebratory tune.
The toothbrush helps children build up to brushing for two minutes which is the recommendation by most dental professionals. When set in the low power mode (recommended for children ages 4-6), the brushing duration slowly increases from 1 minute to 2 minutes over the course of several uses. This was very helpful for my daughter who got bored and therefore had a hard time brushing for 2 minutes with a manual toothbrush.
According to a study done by The Cochrane Collaboration Oral Health Group "electric toothbrushes provide a more significant reduction in plaque and gingivitis compared with manual toothbrushes." This fact paired with the entertainment factor of the toothbrush has made the Phillips Sonicare electric toothbrush a winner in our household.
