bug spray
DEET is a common chemical ingredient in many commercial insect repellents, but it many not be the safest thing to apply to your skin. It has been linked to many health problems that range from minor skin irritation to more serious concerns such as seizures. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends limited use of products containing DEETon kids and to only use those products that contain 10% or less DEET. Parents may wish to avoid DEET and other chemicals altogether when choosing insect repellent.
There are many companies, however, that are commited to the production and distribution of chemical-free insect repellents. These companies use natural ingredients such as lemongrass, rosemary, citronella, lavendar, geranium, and more to keep insects away. Some of these products can be found in health food stores or coops. They can also be ordered online.
