Today UPS delivered a package to my house. I was completely unprepared for the reaction I was going to have upon opening this package. As I opened the box and removed the tissue paper to reveal what was inside, a tear came to my eye. Inside the box was a beautiful 17 inch long teddy bear made from my daughter’s pajamas from The Patchwork Bear. I loved all of her pajamas so much when she was a small baby and never wanted to part with them so the bear is a special remembrance of those times.
The Patchwork Bear is a company started by a mother named Jennifer Cura. She combined her skills as an architect and her love of sewing to develop this company that produces handmade items crafted out of outgrown clothes or clothing with special meaning.
If you have special clothing that you’d like to preserve in a functional keepsake, The Patchwork Bear is the place to begin. First, log into their website at www.thepatchworkbear.com. From here you can check out the bears and other keepsake options including quilts and bags.
If you choose to purchase a bear, you will place your order online. Then, get together the suggested amount of clothing for the type of bear that you want. You can include clothing that is a bit stained and the company will work with the material to ensure that the stain doesn’t appear on the final product. You can also include design ideas if you want certain fabrics to be used for particular parts of the bear. Selecting the clothing was the hardest part for me as I had so many favorites!
When the final selections have been made, ship all clothing articles you wish to be included to The Patchwork Bear Company. You may also include instructions for personalization as this is complimentary. The bear will be shipped back to you in 2-4 weeks.
