women of hope
Women of Hope is pleased to announce that Focused On You Support Programs will begin September 1st. The programs provide an "In Treatment" Group and "Woman to Woman" Mentoring for women battling cancer. They are complimentary to patients and caregivers.
In Treatment “Group
The "In Treatment" Group will meet in a small group setting on the first and third Thursday evenings for nine weeks. The program is designed for cancer patients who are in any stage of treatment. This includes women with impending surgery and those undergoing radiation and chemotherapy. The group provides a warm and safe place where women can focus on such issues as medical treatment, clinical trials, fear, anxiety and familiar traits. Because of the intimate setting, the group is limited to eight participants.
7:00 - 7:40
During the first part of the group session, an oncology PA from New Hanover Medical Specialist will answer questions presented by the group concerning the medical field, such as, chemo and radiation cause and effects. Each week the PA will relay important information relative to the group.
7:45 - 8:30
During the second half, the ladies will learn emotional, physiological and therapeutic exercises designed to provide encouragement and hope and to convey valuable information, facilitated by Catherine Butler and Jenifer Phelps of Sam Mann Healing.

"Woman to Woman" Mentoring
For women who are not comfortable with a group setting, the "Focused on You" Support Program also offers "Woman to Woman" Mentoring. Mentors are volunteers who have experienced cancer as a patient and who believe that everyone should have support when battling cancer. This program connects women who are newly diagnosed or survivors to peer mentors, who are a similar age, survivors of a similar cancer, and in a similar stage of life.
