Most kids have a few weeks before heading back to school. However, before they get back into homework and studying, make sure to enjoy the remainder of summer as a family. Here are some special summer experiences that shouldn't be missed.
- Build a campfire- You don't have to go camping to enjoy a backyard campfire. It is always fun to sit around a campfire (or fire-pit), tell stories and roast marshmallows or make s'mores.
- Go to an outdoor concert or play- Pull out the picnic blanket and head out to local outdoor concert or play. Relax with your family and enjoy the sounds of local musicians or enjoy the cultural experience of a play.
- Have some backyard water fun- Whether you have sprinklers, water guns or water balloons playing in the water can be a lot of fun for the whole family. Create your own games or just enjoy the refreshing water on a hot afternoon.
- Eat homemade ice cream- Get the family together and create some delicious homemade ice cream or sorbet for a real taste of summer.
- Gaze at the summer sky- Take a look at the sky on a clear night. Some planets can be seen along with several summer constellations.
- Play a family game outside- Frisbee, bocce, badminton and volleyball are all easy games to set up that require very little equipment. Don't have a volleyball? You can always use a beach ball to play!
- Collect seashells, sharks teeth or stones- Whether you walk the beach with your family or a mountain trail, make a collection to remember the summer.
- Have fun with watermelon- Watermelon tastes best in summer when it is fresh so make sure to eat your share. While eating this cool treat outdoors, challenge your family to a seed spitting contest!
- Enjoy the water- Whether your family likes to relax by the pool or hang out on the boat fishing all day, just enjoy the days on or near the water. Put on your bathing suit and head to your favorite spot.
