The holidays offer families time to spend together and often a fun activity is going to see a family movie together. Here is a review of what is currently playing and what will be out in time for school break.
Rise of the Guardians has been in theaters since November 21. This animated movie is based on the William Joyce books The Guardians of Childhood. The story is about an unusual group of heroes (Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny, Sandman and Tooth Fairy) who team up to save the world from and evil spirit. This movie is rated PG for thematic elements and some mildly scary action.
Dino Time is coming to theaters December 7. This animated movie is about a group of children that get transported back in time 65 million years and befriend a couple of dinosaurs. They have an amazing adventure which involves exploring the prehistoric jungle they have landed in. This movie is rated PG for some scary action and mild rude humor.
The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey will be in theaters December 14. This movie, based on the novel by J.R.R Tolkein, is the story of Bilbo Baggins who embarks on an epic quest with a group of dwarves to recapture Lonely Mountain. Although it contains interesting elements of magic, this film also contains battle scenes that would not be appropriate for younger children. This movie is rated PG-13.
Monsters Inc. 3-D will be in theaters December 19. The original Monsters Inc. was released in 2001 and is now being released as a 3-D feature. This classic tale of what monsters do when they aren't scaring children is worth catching in the theater. This movie is rated G.
The film’s prequel, Monster Academy, will be coming to theaters in the summer of 2013.
