Hair Ties DIY
Over the past few months I have noticed girls and women wearing the cutest elastic hair ties. While on vacation, I purchased one of the hair ties and paid $2 for it. I liked it so much that I decided to make some for myself and my daughter. I knew that I could make them for much less than $2 each and they are so easy to make!
To make these cute hair ties, follow these simple directions:
- Purchase some 5/8 inch fold over elastic. This can be found many places. I found some locally at Joann's Fabrics and ordered some cute elastics online at Amazon and Etsy. I paid an average of $1 per yard of elastic. At least 3 hair ties can be made from each yard.
- Measure out a length of elastic 8-10 inches long. For thin hair (or young girls) 8 inches is long enough. For adults or girls with thick hair, 10 inches seems to work well.
- Cut the elastic so that the ends are slightly angled.
- Use a lighter to sing the ends of the elastic to prevent fraying.
- Fold the elastic in half and line up the edges.
- Tie a knot close to the end.
These hair ties are not only easy to make, they also stay in your hair and never pull. It is a great project to make with your kids as long as an adult is in charge of the lighter!
