Super Saturday Fun Time
TheatreNOW, the newest entertainment venue in Wilmington, offers something for everyone. There are dinner theater shows, a weekly jazz gospel brunch, movie nights and a special performance for children of all ages each Saturday.
Super Saturday Fun Time provides an entertaining show with an educational twist. Each week the Dock Street Kids accompanied by Dock the dog embark on an adventure that allows them to solve a mystery.
My 3 year old daughter and I visited TheatreNOW one Saturday to see the Mystery of Jacob's Run. Upon entering the facility we were greeted warmly by the staff. Finding a great seat was not a problem as the theater is small enough so that there are no bad seats. We were able to sit right beside the stage which was exciting for my daughter. It made her feel like she was really part of the action on stage.
Juice and water were brought out soon after we were seated following by a hearty snack of muffins, cheese and fruit.
The show began with a lively song that kids were encouraged to take part in. When the song ended, Act 1 of the play began. The Dock Street Kids and Dock were perplexed by an unusual smell coming from the street beside Yosake Restaurant and decided to solve the mystery so that Yosake wouldn't have to close. Many other local attractions were named throughout the performance which helped make you feel like you were part of the show.
Following Act 1 was a brief Intermission that included another interactive song and a pirate story.
Act 2 followed the Dock Street Kids and Dock to a few more local destinations including the tunnels that run under Wilmington. Through the"Kids" research, the audience was given a history lesson about these tunnels. The mystery was solved Scooby Doo style by capturing the perpetrator and pulling off his mask.
Overall, the show was enjoyable for my daughter and myself. I loved the mystery with a connection to history and feel like I walked away with new knowledge about Wilmington. We will certainly visit TheatreNOW again!
