UNCW Offers Jazz Concerts in July

UNCW is offering two jazz concerts in July. The first will be held Tuesday, July 19 at 7:30 PM in the Beckwith Recital Hall, Cultural Arts building on Randall Drive. The Summer Jazz Workshop Faculty will perform in a big band setting, joined by UNCW jazz students and high school workshop students. Department of Music faculty Steve Bailey (bass), Frank Bongiorno (saxophone/jazz workshop director), Joe Chambers (drums, vibes), John LaCognata (trumpet), Bob Russell (guitar), Mike Waddell (clarinet/tenor saxophone), Andy Whittington (piano) and guest workshop faculty Mike D'Angelo (drums) and Tom Davis (trumpet).

This concert costs $5 for the general public and is free to students with valid UNCW ID. The Cultural Arts building box office opens at 6:30 pm. There are no advance ticket sales.

The second concert will be held Friday, July 22 at 7:30 in the Beckwith Recital Hall. Directed by Frank Bongiorno, the 15th annual Summer Jazz Workshop student concert showcases some of the finest student jazz musicians in North Carolina. Combos and big bands are directed by UNCW Department of Music faculty in ensembles comprised of high school students from across North Carolina.

This concert is free to the public and no ticket is required.
