Ron Daise
Ron Daise, star of Nick Jr.’s television show, “Gullah Gullah Island” will visit Cape Fear Museum on Saturday, February 4. He will host an interactive, cultural “game show” that informs viewers about the unique Gullah/Geechee culture and heritage of the southeastern coastal United States. Each guest becomes a “contestant” who gains “points” for answering questions about Gullah/Geechee people, history, songs, culinary traditions, & trivia.
“Gullah/Geechee-Mania!” runs from 1-2 p.m on Saturday, February 4. Admission is free for Museum members or with general admission. The Learning Center will also be open from 1:00-4:00 p.m. with a new African Art theme. Families can discover the African influences in Lower Cape Fear art and culture.
This exciting event follows the exhibit opening of Grass Roots: African Origins of an American Art, on view until March 16. Grass Roots traces the histories of coiled basketry in Africa and America and explores the evolution of an ancient art.
This exhibition has been made possible through NEH on the Road, a special initiative of the National Endowment for the Humanities. It is brought to you by Mid-America Arts Alliance. Grass Roots: African Origins of an American Art was organized by the Museum for African Art in New York City. Additional support provided by National Endowment for the Humanities.
