Cape Fear Museum
CFM Spooktacular
Science Spooktacular offers interactive activities for “mad scientists” of all ages on Saturday, October 18 from 6:00-9:00 p.m. Museum members are allowed in at 5:30 p.m. Uncover the scientific principles behind “spooky” and mysterious events through hands-on activities stations throughout the Museum, such as:
Wearing your lab coat and safety goggles (provided), venture into the Mad Lab where you’ll meet mad scientists from UNC Wilmington’s Center for Education in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (CESTEM) and Women in Science and Engineering (WiSE). Create a mini lava lamp, slime and pumpkin Oobleck. Find out what makes candy sour. Learn about mixtures with vampire punch and scarecrow crunch.
Create frozen shadows, examine artifacts from our creepy collections or build your own skeleton to take home. Experiment with pumpkin oscillators, melting blocks and much more in the Little Shop of Physics. Make a square bubble and a ghost dance. Examine “ghost eggs.” See how light works in a two-way mirror.
Remember, it’s not spooky, it’s science! Admission is free for Museum members; $7.00 for non-members. Children five and under are free. Anyone who buys or renews a Museum membership that evening gets in free. Cape Fear Museum will close at 4:00 p.m. to begin setting up for the event. Science Spooktacular is sponsored by Time Warner Cable’s Connect a Million Minds initiative. For more information about science activities in your town, visit www.connectamillionminds.com.
