Five branch libraries across Brunswick county are offering their annual summer reading program for kids of all ages. FIZZ, BOOM, READ! is this year's theme and it integrates reading with science.
Jammin’ Jellies from the North Carolina Aquarium, Mad Science, Birdman Dave, Exploring the Beach, Sea Turtles, storytellers, music and clowns are among the free performances and activities beginning Monday, June 16.
Sponsored annually by the State Library of North Carolina and funded in Brunswick County by the four Friends of the Library organizations, Summer Reading helps children avoid the “summer slide” that can blunt their reading- and learning-abilities between school terms. But don’t tell the kids that!
Each library branch has a different summer lineup and limited space. Parents are encouraged to call or visit their community library to pre-register their young readers and pick up a schedule of programs. Activities are also posted on the Brunswick County Library’s Events Calendar at http://library.brunsco.net.
