Westgate Nature Park, located on 1260 West Gate Drive in Leland, recently opened. The park is situated on nearly 150 acres of wetlands and uplands on the south side of Hwy 17. The park will be completed in several phases over the next several years. One amenity currently available at the park is a state-of-the art-nature inspired playground which features a large climbing spider, a bee to climb on and hives to climb in. Also available are: a 0.3 mile paved trail, an elevated boardwalk leading to an outdoor classroom, a picnic area and an event lawn.
The park currently provides children a unique place to play, families a great place to eat outdoors and a nice trail to take a furry friend for a short walk. Once all phases are completed, there will be nearly 5 miles of trails and many overlooks and outdoor classrooms taking advantage of Leland's unique coastal wetlands ecosystems.
