Christmas dinner
The holidays bring fun family gatherings and festive holiday parties. For the host, these events can be quite expensive. Here are a few ways to reduce spending on food over the holidays.
1. Have guests bring a dish when hosting an event. This cuts down on spending and time allowing the host more time to prepare decorations or straighten the house before guests come.
2. Seek out sales on main courses that serve a lot of people such as hams or turkeys. Then use the leftovers to make sandwiches for those family members that are staying a bit longer. Make sure to put food in storage containers and refrigerate quickly after the meal to eliminate the chance of food spoilage.
3.Take inventory of what you already have in your pantry and cabinets and try to plan dishes and desserts around the ingredients you already have on hand.
4. Opt for frozen veggies in place of fresh. Frozen vegetables retain more nutritional value than their canned counterparts and are cheaper and easier to prepare than most fresh vegetables.
5. Consider generic brands instead of name brand items for ingredients. In most cases the store brand is just as tasty as the well-known brands.
