Whether your family is heading to visit relatives or just heading out of town for a little rest and relaxation this holiday season, there are ways to save money on your road trip.

  1. Save on fuel. Gasbuddy.com is a website that allows you to seek out the cheapest gas prices based on what city you are in or traveling to. Also, try to fuel up warehouse stores such as Sam's Club and Costco if you are a member. Their prices are often lower than other gas stations. Also, Wal-Mart is offering 10 cents off per gallon of gas through December 24 if you pay with a Wal-Mart shopping/gift card.
  2. Save on hotels. If you plan to stay overnight in a hotel while traveling to your final destination, plan ahead and decide which town you will stop in. Then, do a bit of research on the internet to find the best rate on a hotel. Booking a room via the internet often awards customers with cheaper rates.
  3. Save on food. Pack a cooler with sandwiches and drinks for lunch and bring some snacks for the car. Fast food lunches and gas station snacks can really add up. Also, there are not many healthy options at these locations.
