Girl Scouts – North Carolina Coastal Pines is celebrating its 10th year honoring military personnel through Operation Cookie Drop, a service project component of its annual Girl Scout Cookie Sale program.
Everything girls do in Girl Scouts is designed to help them become leaders of tomorrow. Honoring leaders of today, like our military personnel, is part of how Girl Scouts can learn about and build their own leadership skills. With these leaders in mind, Girl Scouts collect donations each year when selling Girl Scout Cookies so that they can send a “taste of home” to troops serving miles away from home.
“It is always wonderful to see how eager our communities are to support our military troops and Girl Scouts,” said Lisa Jones, chief executive officer at Girl Scouts – North Carolina Coastal Pines. “We are very proud of this program and especially proud of all the Girl Scouts who have worked so hard to collect donations over the last ten years.”
Cookie sales provide girls an opportunity to serve their communities through Operation Cookie Drop. The sales also help girls develop leadership skills. By participating in cookie sales, girls learn about goal setting, decision-making, money management, people skills, and business ethics.
Girl Scouts – North Carolina Coastal Pines is hoping to collect enough donations to send 100,000 boxes of Girl Scout cookies to men and women deployed from home during its 2015 Cookie sale which kicked off on January 17, 2015. Girl Scouts will be selling cookies across central and eastern North Carolina through Sunday, March 1, 2015.
In May, the donated Girl Scout Cookies will be delivered and distributed to military personnel through the following drop sites: Packs4Patriots organization in Ayden, N.C.; the USO at RDU International Airport in Raleigh, N.C.; the USO in Jacksonville, N.C.; U.S. Marine installations Cherry Point Air Station in Havelock, N.C.; U.S. Army base Fort Bragg in Fayetteville, N.C.; and Seymour Johnson Air Force Base in Goldsboro, N.C.
