Halloween Happenings and Fall Fun October 2024
Oktoberfest Under the Bridge
Waterline Brewing, October 5, 12pm – 8pm
Wilmington’s largest Oktoberfest celebration. Wear your favorite Oktoberfest outfit and come celebrate under the fest tent with traditional German Fest music, pretzels, brats, games and contests.
Fire in the Pines Festival
Halyburton Park, October 5, 10am – 3pm
Celebrate the positive benefits of fire in our southeastern forests. There will be live music, food trucks, hay-rides, live animals, engaging educational activities and a live demonstration controlled burn.
Zombie Run
Long Leaf Park, October 6, 5pm
Non-timed 5k course with zombies stationed and hidden throughout the course. The zombies will attempt to pull flags from the runners’ flag belts. The first 50 participants who complete the course with at least one flag intact will receive an additional prize. Includes Monster Mile, a family-friendly run/walk where kids can bring their Halloween baskets to trick or treat and take pictures with our zombies. Families are encouraged to run the monster mile together.
Mel Brooks Young Frankenstein

Spooky Story Walk
Pine Valley LibraryOctober 12, 6pm – 7pm and 7pm - 8pm
Follow the family-friendly spooky trail and enjoy spooky storytelling on the lawn behind the library featuring Mr. Scooter, Ms. Clelia and The Dance Element. Wear your costume and bring a towel or blanket to sit on during the show. For children ages 2-10. No registration required. In the event of inclement weather, this program will be moved indoors.

Fall Craft Fun - Q-Tip Painted Pumpkins
Northeast Library, October 22, 10:15am - 11am
A creative and fun-filled event where children age 5 and under can make their own adorable q-tip painted pumpkins. This easy and colorful activity is perfect for introducing little ones to the joy of art and helping them develop fine motor skills.Using just a q-tip and some paint, your child will explore a world of creativity while creating a charming fall decoration.
Kooky Spooky Shadow Puppetry
Pine Valley Library, October 25, 10:15am – 10:45am
Children ages 2-8 and their caregivers are invited to Join us for storytelling with shadow puppets. Make your own shadow puppet after the show to take home. Shadow puppets give children a chance to continue working on early literacy skills at home as they create and narrate stories. Registration is not required. Please note this show will be Halloween themed and contain some spooky stories and songs.
Family Movie Afternoon: The Nightmare Before Christmas

Halloween Storytime / Outdoor Family Storytime
Pine Valley Library, October 30, 10am -10:30am
Wear your costume and join us for 25 minutes of Halloween themed stories, songs, and movement activities for children ages 5 and younger and their caregivers. Library staff incorporate the five essential early literacy practices: singing, talking, reading, writing, and playing to develop and nurture early literacy skills needed before children learn to read. No registration required. Please bring a blanket or towel to sit on. Enjoy free play outdoors following storytime. In the event of bad weather, storytime will be held indoors.
Going Batty!
Airlie Gardens, October 30, 6pm – 7:30pm
Join environmental educators for a family-friendly evening of bats with a story under the great Airlie Oak and learn all about why bats are so important to our ecosystems. Test your abilities through a series of challenges to see if you can survive in a bat's world. Feel free to bring a blanket, chairs and snacks for story time. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
