Hasbro Playskool
Showcam
Playskool has created a toy that combines photography and performance art for kids. The Showcam is a digital camera and a projector that is great for creative little ones.
This camera is specifically for children between the ages of 3 and 7. Large buttons and easy to follow instructions make this camera the perfect fit for little hands. Children can easily snap pictures and then use the included editing features to add customized effects. For example, they may snap a picture of their best friend's face and then turn their friend into an elephant by using the effects buttons. There are over 50 silly effects to choose from. Some of the effects create still pictures while others create a video experience.
My five year old daughter has been interested in getting a camera of her own for about a year so she was the perfect person to test out the Showcam. She was able to figure out how to take pictures and add effects to them quickly and loved that she could then have a "show" to display her pictures. This camera is certainly fun for young children. For older children looking for quality photos and the ability to take pictures indoors, this is not the camera for them. The Showcam's pictures come out best if taken in bright light.
Pictures taken on the Showcam can be printed, e-mailed and saved by plugging in a USB cord which is not included with the camera. No memory card is needed as the camera stores about 1000 photos. The camera runs on 4 AA batteries. The Showcam retails for about $60 and can be purchased at major department stores and online.
