Jack O Lantern costume
Looking for an inexpensive alternative to store bought Halloween costumes? With a little time and creativity your little one can have a great costume made from inexpensive items found in a department store or fabric store.
Here's how to make a few simple costumes.
Bunch of Grapes
For this costume you will need a purple shirt and purple pair of pants. The shirt needs to be a bit oversized. You will also need many safety pins and purple balloons.
Simply blow up many balloons and attach them to the shirt with safety pins giving the impression of grapes. You can complete this outfit with a green scarf tied around the neck to resemble leaves.
Jack-O-Lantern
An oversized orange sweatshirt, some black felt and fabric glue is all you need to make this costume.
Using the black felt, cut out eyes, a nose and a mouth for your Jack-O-Lantern. Attach the parts of the face using fabric glue to an oversized orange sweatshirt. This top can be worn with any black leggings or pants to complete the costume.
Black Cat
A black leotard and a pair of black leggings are the base for this easy costume. You will also need a black headband, black cardboard or sturdy paper, a strip of fuzzy black material (found at a local fabric store) and tape or stapler.
Create a simple headband with cardboard or paper triangular shaped ears. Dress child in the leotard and leggings. Then, add a long strip of fuzzy black material tucked in the back of the leggings for a tail.
Wizard
For this costume you need no-fray black cloth (found in fabric stores), a large sheet of black construction paper, a few large sheets of yellow construction paper double-sided tape and a wooden dowel.
Cut the black cloth to fit your child and leave 2 long strips at the top of the cape to tie it at the neck. Form a cone with the black construction paper and secure the edges with double-sided tape. Use the yellow construction paper to cut out stars and then attach the stars to the cape and hat using double-sided tape. Create a wand with a wooden dowel with 2 matching stars secured to the end with double-sided tape.
Dress your child in an all black outfit and accessorize the outfit with the cape, hat and wand to turn them into a wizard.
