The Brigade Boys & Girls Club is kicking off their 2015 “Our Kids” annual campaign drive with their 8th Annual Breakfast at the Kid’s Table on Wednesday, Aug. 5, 2015 at the Cape Fear Country Club beginning at 7:45 a.m.
This year’s guest speaker and honored guest will be Phil Ford, former UNC Tar Heel basketball player and winner of the John Wooden Award, which recognizes the nation's top collegiate player.
The goal for the 2015 “Our Kids” Campaign, including the Breakfast at the Kid’s Table, is $250,000. To date, through the 2015 “Our Kids” letter campaign, the Board of Directors has raised $129,000. The funds are used to fund programming expenses such as tutors, staffing, educational and recreational supplies and field trips, as well as scholarships to allow our kids the opportunity to attend the Brigade Clubs with limited or no cost.
With the present poverty rate for children at 22 percent nationwide our commitment is stronger than ever to provide after-school and summer camp alternatives to children at risk and those who need us most.
With more than 30 after-school and summer programs now being offered by the Brigade in three counties, New Hanover, Pender and Onslow, our fundraising efforts have grown and are critical to lives our of kids. Our Club offers a safe, educational, fostering environment that allows underserved and at-risk youth the opportunity to lead successful, healthy and fulfilling lives.
