The Friday after Thanksgiving is a day for relaxing with family, shopping and for many a time to begin holiday decorating. Decorations are also popping up all around town and many Christmas Trees will be officially lit on Friday, November 25. Here is list of these events in our area:
Downtown Tree Lighting – Riverfront Park at 5:45 PM
This event kicks off with a countdown to the tree lighting. Santa arrives via horse drawn carriage, musical entertainment will feature The Roger Davis jazz group. Riverfront Park Arts and Craft Vendors will set up a special holiday market as members from Thalian Association stroll the streets singing carols and spreading holiday cheer throughout the evening.
Lighting of the Battleship- Battleship, NC from 6:30 PM- 11 PM
The Ship takes part in the annual downtown Christmas tree lighting by illuminating the ship from the bow, up to the masts and down to the stem.
The 4th Annual Holiday Lighting Ceremony – Mayfaire 16 Cinemas Theater at 6:30PM
This celebration includes the Thalian Association singing holiday carols, the Wilmington Glee Club with a special holiday performance, The Wilmington Ballet Company performing the magical story of the Nutcracker and the arrival of Santa.
Wrightsville Beach Tree Lighting - Wrightsville Beach Town Hall at 5:45 PM
This event is the annual tree lighting and there will be a visit from Santa. This celebration is also a “Toys for Tots” drop-off location.
The festivities continue in Wrightsville Beach on Saturday, November 26 with the Festival in the Park at Wrightsville Beach Park from 10 AM- 4PM and the annual Holiday Flotilla which begins at 6PM.
The Lighting of the Lake Celebration - Carolina Beach Lake Park at 7 PM
The brief opening ceremony, prior to the actual lighting, will feature the President of The Island of Lights committee, Pleasure Island Mayors, and musical entertainment.
Families can walk one mile around the lake to view the beautiful lighted displays. Santa will visit the celebration and free cocoa and cookies will be served prior to the Lighting.
