Children grow so quickly and often don't wear clothes for longer than 6 monthsbefore they outgrow them and are ready to wear the next size. Buying clothes from department stores and specialty stores can be expensive and leave a large carbon footprint.

Many parents have discovered that consignment is the way to go when purchasing or trying to get rid of children's used clothes. Buying used saves you a lot of money and selling through consignment can earn you money on the gently used items you own.

Local consignment stores that accept children's clothing include:

  • Baby Bugs at 110 S. Front Street, Wilmington
  • Memories of a Child at 6932 Market Street, Wilmington
  • Once Upon A Child at 4719 J New Center Drive, Wilmington
  • Replay at 8024 Market Street, WIlmington
  • Simply Kids Stuff at 4904 Carolina Beach Road, Wilmington

Local bi-annual consignment sales include The Posh Whale, Duck Duck Goose and Kids Exchange.

ThredUP is an online consignment service that buys gently used clothing in good condition. The money you earn can be cashed out through PayPal or you can use your credit to order clothes on the website. There is no membership fee to join you must simply pay a deposit for the original bag sent to you at a cost of $4.95. This deposit is returned to you as soon as a bag with clothes in it is sent back.

Shipping clothes to ThredUp is free because they send you a pre-paid shipping label.

ThredUp is currently accepting all childrens clothing and shoes over size 12 months. At the time of publication of this blog, ThredUp was waiving the deposit fee on the shipping bag saving you even more!

Other Online Children's Resale Sites

There are also several online resale sites that make it easy to shop for gently used children's things without having to pack even the sippy cup, let alone the stroller. www.babyoutfitter.com is one I love and they recently changed their whole look. www.rascalsresale.com is also a great source. I tried www.cheapkidsclothes.com but was disappointed with the quality of what I received. So, there's three options not listed above for parents who can't get out and about ...or just don't feel the need to drag the kiddos to shop.
